Biographical sketch and research interests

I’m an associate professor of political science and a Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Professor at Iowa State University. My research–which ranges from experiments and survey-based research to qualitative ethnographic work–examines political behavior and democracy around the world, predominantly in Latin America. Much of my recent work focuses on religion and politics, and I have a big new project on understandings and responses to climate change.
